Another week of lumbering is in the books. Maybe, I don’t know, I might do more. I’m at 26.5 miles now and have an open weekend alone since Wifey is out living her best life in western Pennsylvania again.

Three days alone is not that big of a deal because it’s not all that different from when she is here due to the fact that unless Brennan is involved, I really don’t do anything out amongst the general public anymore so as to avoid the cult of vibe-killing MAGA douches that live amongst us or have any Cybertruck driving MAGA business owner make a dime from me if I can help it.
So, with that said, being alone is just my new norm. As the saying goes, “I’m my own best company.” Of course, I really don’t like myself that much, so I suppose that I’m just “My own company.”

OK, enough of that bullshit; I’ll save that for my other blog, The Knobs Guide to Modern Misanthropy. All of that was just a long-winded way of saying that I have no commitments this weekend, and if I want to get more miles in, I have a license to do so.
The week of lumbering was OK, and I got a few shots I liked, but I missed way too many, including TWO Bald Eagle encounters, the coolest of which was on Friday.

I only had about .20 left in my hike when I crested the top step of the suspension bridge over the river. Just then, a Bald Eagle flew about 10 feet above my head (20′ off the ground) out of some trees to my left. It was so close I could make out every feather as it flew directly above. It was totally unexpected and the perfect mix of me being several feet off the ground and having spooked the unseen eagle, which was perched looking for food at a similar height. I didn’t even have time to grab my camera, let alone attempt a shot.

Oh well, shot or no shot, wildlife encounters like that are what keep me getting out of bed and into the woods each morning.
I hope to at least hit my 30-mile goal tomorrow and then maybe visit one of the nature preserves to work on my macro skills. We’ll see if I can make room in my busy schedule.
Later.
