Stomps & Bootlicking

Wow, you gotta give January credit. As I type this shit on Sunday morning, it is, of course, still dark out, and of course, we are entering our 21st day of 22 featuring grey, sunless skies. Fuck January.

In all semi-half-seriousness, it’s been the darkest month that I can recall since moving to Michigan from western Pennsylvania back in 2010. In fact, we used to joke that despite mid-Michigan getting more snow back then (climate change comes at you fast these days), the days following what seemed like near-weekly snow storms were often sunny, and Michigan summers are WAY sunnier than anything I ever experienced growing up in PA. I guess what I am trying to say is, “GIMME BACK, MY SUN! OR I’M GOING TO TAKE A HOSTAGE!!!! (looking at you, Ma Nature).

Despite my continued 12-ounce evening sacrifices to Apollo, and despite that being fruitless other than helping me forget the dank of January (and many other things) for a few hours, I continue to happily lumber on through the woods on the 2023 Soil The Woods Tour.

Current 2023 Soil the Woods Tour stats:

Hikes: 19
Miles: 83.54
Average Distance: 4.40
Average Time: 1:16:05
Combined 22NDYCS + 23STWT (Starting 9.19.22): 448.96 miles

This Sunday has also been tough because I know that a mere 4-mile hike would have put me over 30 miles for the week, but my body is saying, “hey bossman, take a look at your feet, and what about that knee pain that you’re flirting with like it’s a lonely hotel bar fly on her 5th dirty martini.” So, I’m listening to my body for a change, doing nothing, and the only flirting I’m doing is with Wifey as I try to woo her into Sunday Sexy Time.

Today’s pics are from the week’s lumbers through the wet and dank forest. I’m looking forward to the week ahead and more miles in the woods, but more than that, I’m looking forward to seeing the goddamn sun again!

Of course, I may have to drive 500 miles to find some. Fuck January, fuck winter.

Later.
