The above pic was from the Transalp race a couple of years ago (2012 I believe). I only post it here now because A. I like the photo and B. The snow and slush is about what it looks like around here right now and it’s only going to get worse. If I were out on the snirt roads right now there would even be cows (most likely not roaming the roads, but they would be there).

Lately, blogging has been pretty easy and my mind has been pretty generous with topics. Sadly, that ended today. Feel free to read on but I can’t promise much (except a bunch of photos and that the blog is even more lackluster than usual)….

Random photo from the snowless 2013 Farmer’s Fat Bike race I used for the contents page of XXC Magazine No. 18 (the final issue).

I opened my eyes, rolled over and shut off the alarm clock a mere minute before the French ambulance siren on speed screech could emanate from its tiny speaker. I stretched, unfurled my man blubber, let out a loud clack of a fart and tried to remind myself of why I had the alarm set for 8 a.m. on a Sunday morning. Oh yeah, Wifey asked me to set the alarm, because she had an appointment with the Lord, or was at least going to church to meet up with B-Man who stayed the night at a friend’s house and would be attending 9 a.m. mass with his family.

It happened so fast, I really don’t know how it happened…. How did I go from a guy who was more than happy to chime in and talk shit on fat bikes and how there was NO way I was going to spend money on bike that weighs nearly 40 pounds just to ride in the snow and cold, to riding a fat bike just being part of my week? How????

Today I wanted to make up for yesterday’s non-ride and at least attempt to get out on the road. The ride’s length would be determined by the conditions of the roads. Ideally, I hoped they would have been plowed of the drifting snow but still left with a wonderful layer of tire gripping snow pack.
Well…

This weekend has not been ideal for much of anything let alone ridin’ bikes. Even bikes with girthy problems like my Surly Pugsley Musk Ox. With that said, here’s a little wrap up of my strange wintry weekend…

A short post-holiday blog post.
Today, my family and I made it back into the 989 (the Mt. Peezy area of Michigan) after 4+ days in Western PA for the Christmas holiday. It feels good to be back home. While I wasn’t gone all that long, I was gone long enough to miss the shit out of Jake The Dog, get a snot-tastic head cold (which I am still rocking), get an idea of what most ‘mericans who don’t ride –or do ANYTHING–feel like, and realize that bitch Dorothy (of Dorothy’s Candies) is surely adding crack to her almond bark candy (I could have eaten a troff of it). I can not wait to get moving again, get a sweat on and burn off some of that almond bark, Luciano’s Pizza, ham and all that other calorically dense shit dick Christmas cheer off of me.
In the end it, the holiday was good. There were only a few awkward moments and only one gift (the BIG gift we gave B-Man) that turned out to be as useful as a shit covered paperweight and needed to be returned because Microsoft and anything associated with Microsoft sucks big giant hairy man balls. By the way, I know this is a very “first world problem” but it really does suck to see your kid go from so happy he’s crying to so sad he is just staring blankly at an expensive piece of Bill Gates’ shit, wondering what the fuck he is supposed to do with it. UG!
With that, tonight is about having a few beers, making up some of my white-trash Mexican food and maybe catching up with some 989 friends later. Tomorrow it will be off to ski or ride in shit weather. My regular knob-tastic blog posts will pick up from there.
Note: The above photo is a swank Duff Beer ornament that Wifey gave me (along with a couple good beers!).
