Squeezing It All In

quickgravelbarn

With time on my hands the past couple of weeks I have been trying to squeeze in a bunch of stuff before fall arrives: riding, hiking with Wifey, picture takin’, hanging out with the boy, fishing, catching up on all my normal house stuff and getting some estimates for some home improvements we need done before/if/when we decide to move to another part of the MP area. Not all of that is fun, but it’s not all that bad either. It really the least I can do whilst Wifey is out slaying figurative bacon to bring home. Not to mention the stuff that IS fun is PRETTY FREAKING FUN and I am lucky to be able to do it. The crap parts are just things that everyone has to deal with.

New Highs With My Lows

WTChinesebbAround lunch time today, I once again found myself craving Chinese food, however ordering up a pint of Spicy Ramen & Shrimp from Super China Panda Great Wall Garden House would have been way too hard. I needed food that required less work of me. And by “less work” I mean food that would take less than ten minutes to cook, would not require me to talk to anyone, and I could make with ingredients I already had in the house. Less work is good, and even better when it tastes good.

Doing A Double

summesucks

My plan to ride singletrack somewhere other than Mid (the 16 mile trails system on the wooded grounds that surround Mid Michigan Community college) on Saturday was a fail. I had the address, the plan, etc. for another trail system, but then just lost interest in driving two hours to ride my bike when I could ride trails just 25 minutes from my house and still have time to do other things after. C’est la vie.

Salty, Dusty Goodness

I tried to get out early this morning for a dirt road ride, I really did. Sadly, my “early” turned out to be 9:45, and things were already starting to really heat up around Michiganderburgh. We get less than ten or so HOT days a year here and today was predicted to be one of them with temps going up into the low nineties by afternoon. Which if you’re from Michigan feels like you’ve been set on fire and thrown into a pool of gasoline.

A Salvaged Sunday

Mid800

Thursday and Friday brought two days of crap dirt road rides on the Farley, and Saturday brought five hours at the shop followed by going to Ithaca to hang out for a couple of hours with friends at the 2015 8 Hours of Ithaca in the stifling heat that Ma Nature threw us. I was happy to have got out for rides on Thursday and Friday, but the were less than desirable. I was also OK with not racing Ithaca (that ship has sailed) and with not riding in the fresh turd like heat. However on Sunday I hoped to do SOMETHING of quality. Or at least as much quality as a 44-year-old man with an ever-expanding muffin top and a growing pork chop problem can muster.

Yellow Card for Whining

mondayrain

Yesterday I whined about and mocked the rainy weather back in western PA. I also talked shit about how dry and sunny it’s been here in Michigan this summer. Well when you whine like that, and get too cocky, the referee of the cycling world–also known as Mother Nature– throws up a yellow card as a warning and to and let you know who’s in charge.
